The West African Examinations Council has set a new record with the release of the 2011/2012 results.
The GCE Nov/Dec results were one of the best in recent times with 60% of the students who participated in the examination passing with credits in English Language and Mathematics which are required for admission into most universities in Nigeria.
The Head of National Office (HNO) for the West African Examinations Council (), Dr Iyi Uwadiae, said this at a news conference to announce the results
He said that 226,658 candidates, representing 60.86 per cent, obtained credit and above in Mathematics while 226, 188, representing 59.82 per cent, obtained credit and above in English Language.

Uwadiae also said that 147,012 candidates, representing 37.92 per cent, obtained credit and above in six subjects; 199,214 candidates, representing 51.39 per cent, obtained credit and above in five subjects; 246,312, representing 63.54 per cent, obtained credit and above in four subjects.

According to the HNO, 287,918 candidates, representing 74.27 per cent, obtained credit and above in three subjects while a total of 324,393 candidates, representing 83.68 per cent, obtained credit and above in two subjects.
